Jennifer Rush
NCC, LPC-S, LMFT-SC

I have over 10+ years of working in the therapy field ranging from mental health, substance use, sexual health, and trauma. I practice from a Systemic Therapy perspective. It is an approach that can be used individually or with multiple people. It involves understanding how internal (you) and external (someone else) relationships come to affect your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This means that I am all about understanding the relationships that you have with yourself and those around you. Often people tend to be more reactive to things in their lives. People are busy and constantly have to learn how to balance things, but not all individuals balance things well.

Mental health is an important aspect of us that should be attended to. I am familiar with working in the substance abuse field whether it is the individual using or friends or family. I have experience working with individuals, families, couples of all backgrounds, and first responders. I want to walk with you on this journey of therapy and assist you in defining what you need to embrace the life in front of you.

Professional Development

I started off taking my first counseling job back in 2008 working with women who has eating disorders. That was a good year to learn about mental health in general. It led to my years working with domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma, which opened my mind to learning more about trauma, sexual health, and substances. Since moving to Louisiana in 2012, I have been focusing my time on how to treat the individual and family dealing with substance use disorders, mental health, and sexual health.

Learning and growing as professional is important to me because it helps me assist my clients in their own learning and growing. I believe in the power of our brains and what we can do if we focus on things in health ways.  I am active in attending learning events to bring back knowledge to the sessions. I am active in my professional community with being on the LAMFT Board, as well as being a supervisor for PLPCs & PLMFTs.
